WCG's Asian Championship (http://asian.worldcybergames.com) website is now live. The general theme of the website has a medieval feel to it. Although currently it has not been filled with complete info yet but I guess the stuffs will be filling up soon once Asian Championship gets nearer.
First reaching the website’s landing page you will feel like you entered into a world of fantasy. The color theme is dark with and overall medieval look. Right from the castle tiled background, to the scroll and to the little shield shaped flags of the participating countries are specially designed to fit into the theme. Something that is hard to miss are also the two mascots flanking the selection to the two main sub sections (Battle Arena & Games Village) located at the mid of the website are icing to the cake in the look department.
Starting from the top section, you can see a menu bar linking to some standard sub pages of the site. Mostly commonly accessed features would probably be “Prizes” and “Forums”. Right below that are little flags of the different participating countries for Asian Championship. Do not think these are for ornamental purposes, clicking on any of them actually brings you to the particular country’s WCG website. Not bad, quite thoughtful for those who are interested to find out more about WCG happenings in those participating countries. There are Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam.
The section below that, there a TV which auto-plays Samsung’s advertisement, then to the right of it is a “scroll” view the latest spells, opps, I mean latest news update. This feature is easy to use as you will be served with only the titles of the article, thus saving space at the same time user-friendly. If you are interested to find out more you can always click of the title to bring you to the full article. One little thing to nick pick though is that the Samsung ad will auto play whenever you hit the landing page. When hearing Beyonce’s singing once or twice only is okay, but hearing it whenever you visits the page makes you totally want to either (1) start hating Beyonce, (2) have permanent ringing of "To the left, to the left" in your head for a long time or make you want give you give shadowless kick to your speakers to end your suffering once and for all. However, my guess is that this problem will be temporary.
Proceeding to the mid section, there are two links individually into the Battle Arena or the Games Village sections. In Battle Arena you will be able to do two main things, one is to play selected games via WCGZone client, and another is to check out the participating countries’ info and results. WCGZone is a client program which allows you to join special tourney events and to link up with players to battle it out and have your resulted recorded and ranked. Next, when hitting the Games Village, there are many things there to explore. First you can view the basic and tournament info on all of the participating countries. Going down the page, you can download one of the mini games provided and play with added bonus of chances to win prizes. Further down, there is a live chat feature and in order to start chatting, you will need to register for a login account to be able to use it.
Finally, at the bottom you will be able to find some interesting tidbits. There you can find a section providing links to download the mini games. Also, if you are interested to see how which country is doing you can check out the medal tally on the section to the right.
I give this page a rating of 8/10. It’s pretty good, but not 10 points yet because there still room for improvement. The site is easy to navigate and user-friendly. Useful information can be easily accessed.
So there you go, above are my overview of the Asian Championship website.
