Singapore, Asia - An interview done by Gameaxis on the ACG Champions 2008, Ehome China. It is all translated into english and is a rather comprehensive interview about their tactics, personal life and such. Enjoy!

Interview with Ehome:

"EHOME E-Sports Club representing China have emerged victorious at the World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2008 held at Suntec City over the weekend.

After a gruelling competition that saw 14 teams representing 14 different countries slug it out in a battle of wits, strategy and technical finesse for a shot at the prize money and the honor of being crowned Asian champs, the Chinese team will now have to brace themselves for the greater challenge that lies ahead: the grand final in Cologne, Germany!

Q1: What first got you started in gaming?

2009: I was in primary school when I first saw my brother playing video games and that sparked off my interest.
longdd: I was introduced by friends.
GK: I was introduced by friends.

Q2: How often do you train?

2009: 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
longdd: 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
GK: 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
dclxjdc: 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.

Q3: How close are you guys? Are there any difficulties in playing together as a team?

2009: We’re good friends for we share the same dream. While we might blame each other when faced with difficulties, we always overcome them and come out stronger.
longdd: I am not really close with my teammates, and we do have our occasional disagreements.
dclxjdc: We are really close, and although we do have our disagreements in our daily lives, these squabbles do not affect our close relationship with each other.

Q4: Do you do anything else together, besides playing games?

2009: I’m a college student from Zhejiang University, and I have other hobbies like reading & diving.
longdd: I don’t have any other hobbies.
GK: I enjoy sports and reading as well.
dclxjdc: Besides DOTA, I enjoy reading, socializing and self-improvement.

Q5: Do you play other games, besides DotA? What are some of these games?

2009: Hero, StarCraft, Diablo, and other Blizzard games.
Longdd: I play the games on QQ occasionally.
GK: FPS and logic games.
dclxjdc: I enjoy RPGs and RTSes as well.

Q6: What do you think of a tournament like the Asian Cyber Games?

2009: It’s an incredible opportunity for gamers to show their talent and passion for games.
longdd: It is a great tournament!
GK: It was a great success!
dclxjdc: I am full of praise for the professionalism of the entire ACG, especially the dedication of the staff in ensuring the success of the tournament.

Q7: What do you think of the Malaysian team, Kingsurf? Who do you consider to be your strongest rivals?

2009: Kingsurf is a team with many ideas, coming up with new ways and new heroes to win the game. My strongest rival is a player from SK-team.
longdd: Kingsurf is a good team, but I feel that XCN is an even stronger team.
GK: Kingsurf is a strong team, but our strongest rivals are team XCN.
dclxjdc: Kingsurf is our main competition in the ACG, and we are full of respect for them. Despite the rivalry, the competitive spirit between the teams will not prevent us from becoming friends. Besides Kingsurf, XCN is another strong team that we have respect for.

Q8: How has Razer given you the competitive edge against your opponents?

2009: Razer products are comfortable and provide a high level of accuracy in competitions.
longdd: The Razer gaming mouse is both accurate and aesthetically pleasing; and the Razer keyboards are extremely comfortable to use.
GK: Razer products offer me a special experience when I use them. Aesthetically pleasing and highly accurate, Razer products are easy to use and will often invoke curiosity from fellow gamers.
dclxjdc: The excellent facilities provided by Razer spared us plenty of headaches in searching for a suitable training ground. Good training facilities are vital for a gamer to improve himself, as are good gaming equipment, both of which are offered by Razer.

Q9: What advice do you have for gamers hoping to improve in DotA?

2009: Do not blame your teammates when you lose a game, but think of how you can improve individually in the next game instead. Always be confident that you can beat your opponents.
longdd: Perseverance; taking the game seriously; and do not blame your teammates for anything.
GK: DOTA is quite a challenging game that requires strategic planning and the ability to pre-empt your opponents.
dclxjdc: Over preparation and too much planning without adequate practice will lead to a player being over-complacent and fall prey to the “all talk – no action” fallacy. The recipe for success is to be able to apply what you have read and learnt in an actual game, and being able to strike a balance between theories and practice.

China are the most hardcore gamers in the world; they can keep going for endless days and nights non-stop. That's why u tend to see cases of Chinese gamers dying of excessive computer gaming.

True true, koreans have been known to be owning in every aspect of gaming. If you follow the international warcraft III scene u will know players like Moon, lucifer all coming from Korea. Should Korea one day rise up in the Dota ranks we will have yet another powerhouse to contend with.

I think we can learn alot from this particular phrase alone.

It's great that Koreans are more focused on Warcraft III:TFT and Starcraft:Broodwars, I can't imagine if they actually moved to DotA, what a global impact it will be.

take a step back and look further...

mass gaming everyday makes you more skilled in the game...but it means less life and less time to spend with other friends who do not game. im sure not all your friends play dota, even if they do, not all the time. some will say that if you organise time well, you can balance gaming and your social development equally well... but how far would you believe in such a statement? it must be great to be able to do well in studies, gaming, socialising, work and have enough slp all at once :P

so such hardcore gaming, is it really a good thing? or does it turn you into a gaming nerd, pro-wannabe?

well im not saying that its good or bad. just giving some space for thoughts.

Playing compeitive gaming is like this, even in Sports and other area. Look at those national players of other country that are paid to play cyber games and sports, they usually excel better =(. In singapore, we are part time student/worker that only play 2 to 5 hours at night while they play as a job. We can't compare =). Sometimes its actually not no-life, they have life, just that Playing is their job and after that, they go enjoy like others =)

SoloZ-
08-13-2008, 12:55 AM
Well when you make the decision to go competitive, be it in sports games etc, you must be ready to make the necessary committment and sacrifice to excel in it. These China guys have done it and for that i salute them!

Lol Jack of All Trade. I think I can understand how it feels.. Trying to excel in the almost most areas in life.. As I moved on with my life, there's less curriculum activities due to more school commitments .. No more electone classes..( basically many enrichment course that accompanied me ).

Never the 'top' for any area I'm in.. But the Pros is that you can show .. say.. your schmates how 'multi-talented'(bah not) you can be @ many other stuffs ;) But when you're alone and you reflect on yourselves.. The feeling suck.

When you started to look further.. it kicked in. I hardly heard of someone being able to pursue their PhD qualification while excelling and representing the Nation in certain sport. Inclusive of social life and stuffs.. ( Socializing is endless.. )

SoloZ-
08-13-2008, 01:09 AM
That is why when u make a committment to a particular sport, be it Electronic or physical, there is always the committment level u need to be able to dedicate yourself to. And that involves balancing other priorities in your life as they will undoubtedly be affected adversely as well.

yup. havent you notice the interviews you get from local teams are more personal rather than professional.
you might wanna check out live interview of Akke (http://www.sk-gaming.com/video/17987-SKAkke_at_DreamHack) at dreamhack.
they've taken a step further in dota as compared to the locals, even interview-wise. :)

the thing about this team is that they are extremely professional in every aspect.

we may never reach that kind of level; the platform's different, its just the way of our life. gaming as a career? 8 hours a day? no way you are gonna to survive in singapore that way

actually there are quite a handful of gamers that does that in SG, juz that they are found only in mmo. In fact, usually its like 16 hrs instead of 8

Haha, if only SG had that potential market, maybe you would start seeing more professional gamers. But because of our low population the possibility of a niche market in e-sports developing here is very low, close to zero.
