As the saying goes, “Everything that has a beginning has an end.” The same holds true to the Compaq AMD Pro-gaming League (CAPL), which concluded with not quite so unexpected results, especially with regards to Defence of the Ancients or more commonly known as DotA.
On the final day of the event, the top DotA teams in Singapore gathered at E2Max, the host venue for this great event, when the Elite category was to compete for the top prize of $1,200.
All eyes, well most actually, were on team Zenith, who, fresh from their win in a Malaysian competition, look set to regain their title as the best team in Singapore.
Other notables were team Mi2, who beat Zenith back in August on their way to the World Cyber Games (WCG) crown, as well as dN*, whose names consistently appear near the top of the leader board.
And so the day began with much fanfare, and throngs of people gathering around the barricade to watch the matches going on.
Team xqR’s DotA ensemble was at hand to present Zenith with what was supposed to be a tight game, but due to unforeseen circumstances, Mystic, an important member of xqR’s team was unable to make it on time, and the team had to substitute a last minute player, Rukia*. All this contributed to a relatively short game of only 50:04, in which, xqR’s middle lane was down in only 36 mins, and within 5 mins, the top went down as well.
Team dN*, however, proved to be a much tougher opponent in the semi-finals, and Zenith took over an hour before finally ending the game with a “gg”. Although from another perspective, it could have been because Zenith had drafted Alchemist, which had all along been unheard of in competitions up until then. The Alchemist was publicly known to be an imbalanced farmer, but had little use during matches, but ice proved otherwise, when he used it to tank the damage from opponents as well as towers for his team mates.
The finals! Mi2 versus Zenith.
Team Zenith, who were probably looking forward to this opportunity to rematch the team that broke their unbeaten streak, had taken no chances with the draft this time, choosing to go with more traditional heroes, but surprises from the hero usage were ice’s Zeus and Lux’s Lord of Avernus, who managed to farm a tremendous amount of gold in the beginning. Zenith’s ice was going all out to kill, and managed to get the own the most in that game.
Mi2 put up a good resistance to the waves of attacks and ganks early on, but soon succumbed to what would end up being the unstoppable team, Zenith.
Congrats to Team Zenith on winning the Autumn season of the CAPL!

We would like to thank our reporter for this first ever write-up for the CAPL event. More to come in the near future!
