LaNce’s Short Series – The Guide to No Guide

A low risk conventional win? Or a high risk unconventional win? You decide.

Introduction

A Guide to no Guide? Sounds contradictory right? Well do not fret, LaNce is here to tell you why this Guide, will lead you the way for NO guide. =D

Well this guide's target audience is actually for players and teams in the competitive scene; however, it does apply indirectly if you are just a casual player. Read on and Enjoy!!

Prologue

Well it's been some time since the release of the first installment of my short series. Due to certain mishaps (exams, camps and my dead laptop), this guide was delayed so darn long. Nevertheless, its finally here and I will cut long story short and go straight in.

Ok lets start by telling you what i mean by "NO Guide". It simply means not following a guide, or so called a trend, something everyone is doing; something that is conventional. According to www.dictionary.com 's explanation on "Guide"; it means something that serves to direct or indicate. Following a trend, or so called guide, will direct and lead you safely, however, you may just be following someone else's footsteps blindly, without even knowing why.

In relation to DotA (competitive)

In Draft, or maybe in a competition, every hero pick, strategy, ganks, engage, mistakes may decide a win or loss. We can't possibly pick up teamwork and nice engages from replays that we see or matches that we analysed at a competition. However, things like hero picks, certain techniques can be picked up from other teams.

Follow them. and Own the opponents hard. Sure. We get familiarised with the conventional picks and eventually, the game goes pretty much like the one uve seen in replays. With some amount of practice, I'm sure the game would be a piece of cake for most of the times.

I'm not here to criticise following some great and strategies and excelling in them; my point is, it's never wise to copy blindly, or copy whole-sale. No need to feel offended or irritated, this is just from an individual point of view.

In relation to Dota (public)

For a public gamer level, meaning you are a player with no competition experience or simply just playing Dota for fun, this Guide to No Guide will still apply to you indirectly. I remembered when I first started out, I read and followed guides in various Dota forums and actually started out rather ok, occassional owning.

However, as times go by, new versions are released like morning papers, guides just can't catch up. I always love versions that came with new heroes, and was ever-eager to try out heroes, test builds etc. Life isn't a bed of roses, I remembered the days when BloodSeeker first came out (darn long ago), i bought items like lothars edge, diffusal (and god knows wad silly items) and ended in me feeding like crazy. But it was fun.

Well that was darn long ago, but my point is, trying out builds by yourself, not following guides makes ur whole Dota experience at public games much more interesting.

Following a Guide (or so called trend) might be easier, But No Guide boosts the Overall Gaming Experience, making Life more Enjoyable

In Conclusion

This whole article is based on my selfish opinion, aiming to ring some bell for readers like YOU. If you think any part of this article just makes your blood boil, or have something you simply have to spit it out, just reply and let us know! (Remember no flames (at me) or vulgarities)

Hopefully, the Guide to No Guide might spur you on changing your mindset in this marvellous RTS/RPG named DotA, taking your gaming experience to a whole new level.

Epilogue

How effective is your team training? How effective was your game? In the next installment, Quality > Quantity?
