"ranting off" mode on

Thinking about it , how do you actually evaluate a player ?

the way most people do is to evaluate them based on their kill-deaths ratio

that is the end result of dotaing

is there any other criteria to judge the way some1 plays?

these could be some ways

1) alertness
the time taken to respond to an unexpected event - like being bs-ed or missing hero

2) teamwork
ability to follow the plan thats being initiated

3) map awareness
awareness of the heroes in the mini map without being informed explicitly

4)understanding of how each hero is played and whats effective against them

5) the ability to farm
ideally , for every wave you would be able to deny/farm every single creep

the list is not limited to this and perhaps u can contribute what u think could be a criteria to consider

i evaluate a person not because of their kills death ratio. i evaluate them seeing whether how competent are they in a team. for example if lets say ur team mate run back away during engagement because he health is low and not turn back to stun or whatsoever . u can see from such situation that he is not smart or have the ability to think whether could he contribute or not.

i can't tell a really good player from a good player. All i can tell from is a newbie and a person who knows dota.

not only leadership, it takes skill being a follower too.
and their ability to look at the whole picture indtead of just your hero.

why nobody say hero skill here.
for me. i'd rate a player by their ablity to control their hero. casting speed. cast and move up, how fast their subsequent commands are.
lastly how they control their hero la. its the most impt thing!.

This how i judge

-Map awareness.Decent knowledge and can use fog of war to escape/gank
Also, must be aware when player is gone.
-Deny & last hitting.Must be decent in both aspect.
-Able to play all role in a team(from carrier to supporter)
-Must have an idea when to use your skills and use on who.
-Must be experience enough to handle various situation like bd,gank.
-Must be willing to coperate with the rest.No point soloing the whole game.
-Item build that can help you in your situation(no dumb build like dagon on naix)

Also,never judge a player by kill-death ratio.
They might be playing as a supporter and thus having less kill.
A team without soild support is akin a man without backbone

Cannot believe you said this rofl. I've seen like one guy in my school LAN shop actually buy that for naix -.-:Banane20:

Although i know a hero should not be limitted to only a specific group of items, dagon for naix is just not practical .. can get better items with the money anyway imo

Naix: *Whack whack, Avatar(For Kaz Modan!!), Chase Whack, Dagon!
CM: Kenna [*Whack whack, Avatar(For Kaz Modan!!), Chase Whack, Dagon!]
Naix just got a MONSTER KILL!!! pwnzor

Dagon on naix is not a dumb build. Other than Rage, he doesn't need any mana, which is rather put to waste. Dagon as a finisher is alright, but I would rather go for manta style.
