Hey guys,
Srry for the long post in advance.
Short intro:
I am a Canadian university student who goes to school on the US west coast. A little background about me playing DotA, currently a starter for CAL M team (this probably means nothing to you). I have been playing since before 5.36. Active in all the major individual leagues in the US and Europe (with decent though not amazing ranking). And the last time I visited Singapore I found that very few people played or even knew of the game. Luckily I recently came upon these forums. I am visiting Singapore again for about a week to see some family and had some questions that I was hoping you could answer.

1.
What is a good LAN café to go for DotA. I will be staying near grange road and paterson hill. But I can probably access any LAN place that has easy subway access. I only speak English so any shops run exclusively in Chinese or something might be kind of difficult.

2.
Do most people only LAN at these places? Or do they play on BNET also. Are the LAN games mostly pickups? The last time I went two LANs there, one was basically full of only CS players. In the other (on Orchard rd), the only people playing DotA were like little kids. I would just be interested in playing some AP draft and other fun stuff.

3.
Do the top Clans tend to frequent LAN cafes together? Is there anyway for me to be able to see how they play? I know there is a lot of discussion about asian(SG) dota versus Americans and I don’t really care about it. But I have played with some of the players considered the best in the US and I would be really interested in just seeing the differences/similarities in play style. I assume there wont be any tournaments while I am around (dec 16-21) where I could see them.

In particular I would really want to see Zenith or Mi2 play.

4.
Finally just a kind of off-topic question, best place for Laksa? Definitely my favorite food and almost impossible to find outside of Singapore for some reason. Anyone have any personal favorite places that I should try it at?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give and if any of my questions are confusing or anything just let me know.

1) E-games, opposite paradiz, by Prinsep Street. Easy MRT access, but might be full on weekends, but with the massive amount of LAN shops there, you can't go wrong.

2) E-games has rather smooth BNet connection, but I don't think anyone there plays BNet. They play on LAN and use IRC to find either Lancraft pubs or matches. If you're lucky you can find a team of 4 people on site looking for a 5th, but don't count on it. Other LAN shops like HQ don't exactly have the best connection and unless you're playing LAN, not Lancraft, you'll be lagging badly.

3) Yes, but you never know when. E-games in particular, as well as then neighbouring HeadQuarters LAN shop usually always has a clan around, sometimes playing on LAN, often using Lancraft to connect to other opponents. Zenith, I think, will be playing at e2max at orchard Cineleisure this coming Saturday.

4) Tofuboi reccomends Queenstown Shopping Centre, or Centrepoint if you have the money to spare. Otherwise Katong is always a good choice.

1.Azure @ 191A Thomson Road .Its located in Novena(one of the MRT Stations in the North south line) ,Goldhill Centre, just directly above Super Cuts Salon.Opposite of IRAS building. If you travel there by MRT,use the underpass heading towards United Square,When you reach the exit, turn right, you would be able to see Mary Chia beauty parlour,Super Cuts is just one of the few shops besides it.

here is a link for directions

how to use mirc.
www.mirc.com
download it
set ur nick and stuff and when ur all set, type in the main window "/server singapore.sg.galaxynet.org" without the "
[if u have a router it takes about 1-2mins, if not it connects really fast]
when uve connected, type
/j dotarian
/j wcg
/j wgt
each command will allow u to enter to a the channel, where u can spam for games.
u can see ppl typing lots of ip addresses. these are public games and u use lancraft/yawle/battlelan to connect to these games. they are jus ur regular battlenet only that the standard is very much higher. [not to mention the delay is also minimal, 0.2sec]

for draft games, u have to jus spam in the channels, "looking for draft match" or whatsoever, u get a pm from someone, or u pm somebody else. decide on who hosts. and then u join that game thru the ip address.
in sg, normally hosting team takes sent, and opposing takes scourge and picks first.
u can also spam for draft games in team's channels. to name a few : dn* mvp micronology -dreamz- wecookgrass xqr du|anz

nobody in singapore really plays battle.net. the top teams here all play over irc. and more ppl playing over irc. cuz the standard here is much higher. hope ive helped.

some food places for must trys.
chomp chomp in serangoon garden, must have the stingray, chicken wings, hokkien mee there.
holland village, the night life here is really nice. lots of food stalls open
geylang. its infamously known as the red light district, yet, the food here is just so delicious. there are over 30+ streets in geylang. there are however, some streets which are more or less the really red light districts[prostitutes]. im not sure which. so see if ur lucky!

enjoy ur stay in gainpore

Ok thanks guys.

I will definitely check out e-games since most people seem to reccomend it.

I will be arriving in singapore on Saturday evening, so I don think I will be able to watch Zenith that day (damn!) but who knows what might happen.

How late are these places open? And when are there busy times?

Oh really? If so then u have not been to battle.net. Singapore/Malaysia games are equal to US games + Aus games.
