http://www.dotasg.com/images/sc2logo.jpgInternational - Everyone is getting hyped up as fall is fast approaching. We too are filled with anticipation awaiting the arrival of StarCraft 2. Blizzard so far has temped us with demo and regular releases of updates on it. However, before we are over excited of the immerse goodness shown so far, we are hit with a little splash of "bad news".
First the "bad news". SC2 will not be having lan function. Say What?????
Yes, there will not be a lan function which means the end of lan parties as we all had known. Won't that deter people from buying their game? Most probably not. Why? Because for those who want to get some multiplayer fix, they can do it online through the Battlenet 2.0, so all are not lost but just become a little less convenient.
Despite for some petitions which amassed up to about 5K plus signature objecting to this move, still Blizzard explained that this move is necessary to combat piracy which are rampant currently with some of their current title. Thus indicating that they will stand firm on that.
Not only will this affects current playing habit of WC3/DotA gamers, also heavily hit will also be those third party lan emulators and server/client programs like Garena. If like what Blizzard have explained, SC2 will not be able to work anymore through those type programs. So it's Bnet 2.0 or nothing. A tips for those that are now crying their heart out, it's not the end of the world yet. You still can have lan party or enjoy SC2 (and it's mods alike) in cybercafe. Just have to make sure they are connected to the internet. As for how stable and lag free, we can't tell for now. We can only wait and see.
Here are some replied in response to the questions popped at Blizzard about this "no lan" issue quote from multiple source over the net.
“we don’t have any plans to support LAN,” he said and clarified “we will not support it.” The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net.
“is because of the planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net.”
Now here are some good news is that DotA should be returning with the availability of editor for SC2. So if everything goes well, we should be seeing return of our favorite mods in it's SC2 form. It is certainly relieve to know that for DotA which we are most concern about. We do not know if Blizzard will they themselves take it up as one of their babies, but if that happen, then DotA is going to be big. Very BIG, given that DotA has become a competitive stapler in many of the major international events. Although with the disappearance of some major game compy franchise somehow taking DotA down with them, but in time to come all current and new game franchise will definitely not give it a miss.
Already some exciting vid of sample game taken from actual gameplay have been released. There one with commentary while the game is in action.

In the longer video, the part which the Terran building just picks itself up and flies away when almost going kaboom after being assaulted by Zergs unit somehow makes me giggle. Must be work stress.
Anyway, Enjoy!!
