We were at the E-Games Dota Competition and our eyes were caught by a cute female Dota player from Team Revolt, talk about happy audiences. We managed to get the lady with the Arwen Evenstar pendant to sit down and have a chat with us, after a few casual questions we started the interview.

DotaSG: How did gaming start for you? Was it peer influence or did you pick up the interest yourself?

Tammy: I started in Primary 5 when my friend passed me a Warcraft 2 CD. Nah, friends aren’t the main influence, I had the self interest in games to begin with.

DotaSG: Do you feel underestimated by guy gamers?

Tammy: I haven’t really gotten an honest answer, to me; Sex doesn’t really matter since it’s just a computer game, not like sports. I agree that guys do have a better gaming sense and timing. I think girls playing Dota aren’t as underestimated as female Counter-Strike players.

DotaSG: Do you think the community has done enough to bring out new female gamers? How do you think the community can help nurture female gamers?

Tammy: For my clan, Revolt, they encourage female gamers to take part in the competitions or training with the guys, not much special treatment. They usually encourage girls to join in-house games in the guy’s teams, I personally think that we should not treat girl gamers differently, even if such games are male dominated.

DotaSG: What do you think about female gamers being less “skilled?”

Tammy: Maybe majority of girls just don’t like to play games …

DotaSG: Haha, that’s true, but what about your female friends? Do you have many female gamer friends?

Tammy: Hmm, not really. I don’t have a lot of female gamer friends. I have a friend, Charlene, who plays Warcraft now, and so she’s not into Dota. I have a few friends like Cheryl (Sherica) and Dawn (pinksheep) who plays Dota with me; we played together in the WCG Girls Team. There was one time during a competition, we needed 2 more players to form a team, but at the last minute, we couldn’t find players.

DotaSG: What do u like most about Dota?

Tammy: The teamwork. It feels good when your strategy falls into place and the kills start coming in. Oh yah, and it feels damn good to own. Haha! I would normally turn up my speakers 10 times the normal volume just to hear MONSTER KILL!!

DotaSG: LOL!! Moving on, is Dota not as technically demanding as other games?

Tammy: Well it’s hard to say, different games require different skills, and in Dota we have been trained to farm, deny and harass, where each of the aspect is difficult to perfect or even be good in.

Dota is more suitable for girls as there is less micro needed like wc3 or reflexes in counterstrike, much more comfort and easier to get the hang on it. :d . hope girls play this game instead of spending their boyfriend money on shopping and eating *sobs :( *
