Hello all... This is my very first post on this forum,
as well as my very first guide on dota..
Feel free to correct me if you spot any errors in the course of this guide
This guide is meant to help beginners, as well as competitive players find an edge in their gaming, through the placement of the eye of sauron wards..
Again, feel free to justify any mistakes made throughout the course of this guide. <33333
Sorry for the lousy pictures btw.. Stupid image converter..
Also.. You'll have to strain your eyes a bit to find the wards in certain pictures.. My bad..

Destiny's Comprehensive Guide To Warding

Introduction to Warding..
Some might ask.. Why ward?? Such a waste of my 200 gold..
Or go, warding is for pros... I shouldnt waste my money on it..

Well for starters..
Here's a brief overview of the type of wards

[I] Types of wards

Observer Wards
640
Costs 200 gold
Lasts for 6 Minutes (360 seconds)
Maximum of 2 sets in stock in store.
Replenishes itself every 6 minutes in store
Is Invisible.
Gives SIGHT in a 1600 Aoe, But obscured by trees
200 hp.

Sentry Wards
641
Costs 200 gold
Lasts 3 minutes (180 seconds)
Replenishes itself in store almost instantly.
Is Invisible..
Gives TRUE SIGHT in a 800 Aoe. Not obscured by trees
200 hp.

[II] What are wards for??

Wards help to give sight in a huge area when placed correctly..
It gives us knowledge of where the enemy is. Instead of us blind guessing where the enemies are when they are not in lane. Helps to give sight of runes, when can turn the tides in a team battle, a simple 3 man gank, or maybe even a 1 on 1 situation. Wards are also use to stop the spawn of neutral creep camps, so as to prevent opponents from doing a creep pull to aid their farming if their lane is not doing well..

Overall Summary
Prevent Ganks..
Prevent spawn of neutral creeps.
Gives knowledge on enemies whereabouts.
Gives sight of runes.
Makes your minimap look cool by having lots of lighted areas

[Question] So dude.. Where should i place my wards??[/COLOR]

Obviously i would place a couple in my girlfriend's house to peep when she bathes or changes
By rule of thumb, place wards on high ground.
Common sense tells you that Duh??..

[III] Ward Spots. Common or Uncommon

[III] Part 1

Sentinel Wards Spots

This is where the fun starts. Everyone picks their heroes and runs off to their respective lanes.. This is where the unsung heroes of the game come into play.. As they are commonly crudely known as.. Ward Bitches..
Come on.. They are actually our dear support heroes!!!
Subsequently.. I will be providing images and justifications for the ward spots for the Sentinel..

Sentinel 1
644
This ward spot provides vision of the rune.
As well as the slope below, also a section of the river..
It has been used recently by the Chinese teams to stop their 2 roamers strategy..
This ward spot can stop roamers from bottom to mid.. Vice versa..

Sentinel 2
645
This ward spot is a rather essential one.
Chances are opponents are pulling this camp.
This camp stops the neutrals from spawning..
Furthermore, the ward spot provides vision of heroes coming from the runes, thus preventing further ganks.
It also provides vison down the ramp to the right.

Sentinel 3
646
Notice that there are 2 wards place.
Both are alternatives to that particular ward spot.
Conventionally, wards were used to be place on the cliff just overseeing the rune. Little do people know that wards can also be placed behind the tree. As the former has sight obscured by the tree.
This ward spot gives sight of the rune.
It also gives wide vision of the river. Important for rune control.

This ends the first part of the guide..
Due to the limit of 5 attachments, I have to continue on the next post.

Sentinel 4
647
This ward spot gives excellent vision.. It fully demostrates the benefits of warding on high ground.
Useful when you're about to take the scourge 2nd tower.
Alternatively, it allows excellent control of the scourge forest.
A must ward if your team is ganking aggresively in the opponent forest.

Sentinel 5
648
Main used to prevent ganks from bottom to middle lane
Uncommon ward spot. Vision given speaks for itself.
Not really useful in my opinion.

Sentinel 6/7
649
650
Both spots are interchangable..
Essential if you are organising a push into the scourge base.
Gives sight upslope, a little beyond the raxes.
Can potentially prevent blinkers from OMGWTFBBQ blinking into your organised push and wiping your team out in a matter of seconds.

Sentinel 8
651
Note again there are 2 runes. This is the conventional ward spot people use.
Gives sight of rune, river, ramp..
Pretty much self explainatory.

Oops.. 5 attachment up.. Next post time!!

Its time for the Scourge side now.

Scourge Ward Spots

Scourge 1
652
This ward spot provides vision of the rune and river. As well as the opposing path. Good for rune control.

Scourge 2
653
Similar spot to Sentinel 4
This provides vision in a huge AOE. Good when pushing down sentinel's 2nd tower. Usual deward spot for both sentinel and scourge, as this ward spot can make or break a team fight.

Scourge 3
654
For some reason, i find scourge warding this area more than the sentinel for some unknown reason. This ward spot gives vision of the rune and river. Also, the lower ramp to the right. Furthermore, it gives vision of the ancients too..

Scourge 4
655
This ward spot makes use of the wide level ground. Gives excellent vision around the area. Usually used to scout for heroes that are neutralling.

Scourge 5
657
This ward spot is similar to Scourge 1. It gives sight of the rune and river. Also the opposing ramp. Can also be used to scout for roshan.

Eeezs lunch time nao.. Next post :D

Trying to get my lazy ass onto continuing -.-

Scourge 6
658
Ward spot is used to scout for incoming heroes lurking within the woods, as well as give vision of the hero that's in the lane.

This is the EXTRA PART!!! Weeeeee

Sentinel Extra 1
660
This ward spot is great. It scouts the rune.. Gives quite a bit of vision to stop either sides from coming around the patch of trees to gank. Good place to ward at the beginning of the game..

Sentinel Extra 2
661
Again.. Huge AOE of vision.. Gives sight of rune.. And a little more... Good place for the Sentinel to ward at the beginning of the game..

Scourge Extra
659
This ward spot is amazing.. It stops TWO neutral creep camps from spawning.
Yup.. TWO CAMPS!.. Gives a nifty bit of vision too.. Good place to ward from the beginning of the game

Scourge Extra 1
662
Gives sight of the base of the Sentinel.. Essential for pushes that aim to take down raxes.. Ward spot can also be found towards to right of the base entrance too...

[IV] Defensive and Offensive Warding...

Offensive Warding..
I refer Offensive Warding as to warding at spots that give an offensive edge.
For example.. The wards placed on both high cliffs of the Scourge and the Sentinel.. To put it in another sense, it pushes your team to go on the offence. Be aggresive. Gank aggresively. Force the opponents out of the safety zone.
Ganking strategies are the norm now.. Its either gank or get ganked... Also, hero picks should favour the type of warding route you would prefer to take. You don't expect to be warding offensively if you have a team that revolves around supporting a hardcore carry..
But.. With so many varieties, which spot is the most important??
Personally.. I believe the short lanes should be shutdown respectively.. Top for Scourge. Bottom for Sentinel.. Left alone, these 2 lanes can give a lot of space for the opponents to farm, as people tend to neglect the lanes. Also, focusing too much on the river and neutral area might give your opponents lane space to farm.

On the contrary. Imagine this.
You picked too many late gamers. You and your teammates are getting picked off 1 by 1.. Your opponents seem to know wherever you are.. They follow you.. They stop you from farming..
They keep coming out from the fog. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO??
Defensive warding comes into play here.. Usually you should ward not beyond your side of the river.
As always, the cliffs of both the Sentinel and the Scourge come into play here. They provide important sight, for the team to spot the opposition that is coming to pick them off.
Every creep counts, so does every ward you place. Try to deward the places which you think opposing wards are. You've got nothing to lose anyway...

[V] Conclusions
Both observer wards and sentry wards are of pivotal importance. 1 well placed ward can change the tide of the game. Change the outcome of a team battle. Prevent your team from getting wiped out. I do sincerely hope my guide has affected your game place in one way or another.
To end off.. To know thy self, to know thy enemy. You win each and every battle..

Yours sincerely
Javan.

P.S.. To the people that are reading.. Please tell me what type of guides you would prefer in the future. I'll try to make them, for the benefit of our singaporean dota community
CHEERS!!!..

Good Job taking time and effort to create this thread!

Almost all of these wards are crucial(early to mid , late game)

By the way , 6 minutes , its 360 seconds instead of 300 seconds I assume?

start a guide on how to draft. coz i see a lot of ppl coming to this forum hoping to learn to draft but they simply cannot find any guides on it.

it will take 4eva 2 do a draft guide..
draft guide is different to other types of guide..
Mostly its about exp and knowledge about dota and which hero is able to counter which..
Your heroes lane are also important.. some hero does not work well with others
A lot of factors is considered such as type of heroes, etc

this isnt really a good guide imo
u missed a few extremely critical warding spots
warding at enemy neutral creeps - i won many games with this ward
warding at enemy pulling spot
and also it's not a complete guide since a warding guide
should be followed by a de-warding guide
then again, not sure whether this guide is for competetive play or lower lvl play

Bellamy.M

u missed a lot of spots actually.

tower warding... you didn't cover it at all. @.@

well I've been a ganker and support lately and i think my gaming level is on the competitive stages and yeah some spots are not shown but the guides really are neat for newbies.. just remember when warding sometimes you can use your your opponents wards against them, all those spots that destiny said was really cool . but to put it simply wards are best to control your game even your out hero ed and yes is specially for gankers so watch a lot of replay and watch how gankers do there thing, you guys should try ganking roles too and with a bit praktice your team mates will appreciate .. good luck with your wardings skills and sure to win a lot..
