Always take note of:

RANGE ONLY:Projectile Speed.(how fast your attack move toward the target.)
Ursa got 10000 while silencer only 1000.Sniper is 3000.

Attack Animation(take note how fast your attack is release the moment you click the target).

Base damage: If you are a low base hero early,focus on buying early game survival item like gg branches and item that boost life/damage.
Heroes like bone should use fire arrow to last hit if opponent is also good in micro.

Other external:note that the necromancer deal more damage to creep than the melee ones.
Also remember that seige deal 1.5x damage to creep.
You need to be aware which creep is attacked by who.(all the animation of enemy creep)

That depends on the hero. With a hero with high attack dice factor like Chaos Knight, it is rather difficult. But for someone like warlock or viper, the base damage is high and has a short scale, so it would be easy.

Calculate your attack animation. Someone like furion's projectile will shoot at about 0.445 seconds. As for viper, It would be about 0.38 seconds before projectile will shoot out. Also take note of the projectile speed. Pugna,Lich, slayer's projectile would be rather slow, so attack the creep about 0.2 seconds earlier. When a creep goes to red, do not hit yet. Wait for one more creep hit before you attack it. Anyone with sucky animation like slayer; enig or potm will need to click the unit a little earlier.

Even if you are ranged, you should always stay close to the creep you're going to attack.

Deny < Last hit

Why so?

If you take a last hit, you get money. If you deny, the enemy may have less exp, but you wont have the extra 50 gold.

Remember denying a creep against an enemy melee hero will only rob him of 18 exp, which is not much.(not too sure)

On the other hand, if he is not as efficient as you, you will still be same level as him, but your gold count is way above his.

A melee creep gives out 61 exp.
A ranged creep gives out 48 exp.

In order to achieve both last hit and denies, you may need to give the enemy creep 2 or 1 random hits first.

Also, watch the creep you are gonna attack soon, what other creeps are attacking it. The common error that most people make are with your own ranged creeps/siege creeps attacking it. The ranged or siege creeps will have a chance ending up getting the money/kill.

get a gosu programmer to make a program that calculates damage taken per second by a creep and have it also calculate your own attack damage, attack speed, attack projectile speed and have it attack at the fatal hit.

Best way to improve is to practise and practise and practise.And then practise some more.Its the same as wc3 standard micro.For dota ,each time try to hit every single dying creep,try to avoid situations where ur creep and enemy creep die abt same time so u can only either deny or earn but not both.Stick to a paticular hero so u ca master its timing.
