cool: becuz it is a battle ground within asia and nt within singapore. If given a choice to any competitors, most would rather go global competition than a local event.

uncool: not grand enough. if there can be live telecast of the competition on tv (like starcraft in south korea) it would be perfect ;/

cool: u get to play on stage with spectators ,shoutcast, spotlights on the stage and stuff.

uncool: not much local media coverage---> like mediacorp ppl going to the event since day 1 and interviewing gamers and following up with the games... daily updates on tv..

i personally think everything was cool.....the gaming arena was very nicely and neatly arranged, the stage and seats was gosu and the xbox and sponsor areas were done well too....

but one major setback was that the spectators had no real places to watch the games that were not selected to be shoutcasted on the stage compared to WCG 2005, where there were a number of spots with big monitors and dozens of chairs for spectators to catch up with the other games that were ongoing.

That resulted in tons of people crowding at the sides of the gaming arena, causing problems like people constantly pushing the barricades, too close for comfort contact with the gamers/marshalls and only the games that were played by the teams sitting there could be viewed. People were not able to see their fav teams in action for they were scattered around the place.

Place was neater and easier to manage but the spectators had less games to watch. So maybe a healthy balanced could be made but netherless all is still good and would be looking forward to the next WCG.

coolredbull.
uncool:focussed too much on catering to the needs of the audience, generating hype, trying to reach out to the masses, and promoting spectator-ship. by this i am referring to the on-stage shoutcasting matches. neglected the basic needs of a team =
1) the freedom whether to wear headphones or not,
2) the ease of communicating with teammates
if the organisers were able to spare a thought for the solo game gamers by building a special soundproof box, i believe they should cater to the needs of a team as well. commentators are disruptive, especially in such close proximity to the team, but i am not denying that they do raise the energy levels of crowds up as well as contribute to a more vibrant gaming scene.

exposed! thats written by me! =x but not REALLY my opinion, since i've not had the opportunity to play on stage. lol..
anyhow! my opinions:
cool : RED BULL! and that this year's dota compie was a group thingy... so we could play more games. more worth our $.
uncool : not sure if its relevant for this year's games, but if a participant registers for 2 games or more, makes it to top 4, and has to forfeit one cos of match time clashes. very uncool. i mean, its a large prestigious compie, to be able to make it so far, only to be forced to forfeit? its like telling a sprinter at the olympics that he can only take part in the 100m and not the 4x100m relay cos of race clash...
