International - Blizzard has recently announced that one of the features of their upcoming title Diablo III would be the auction house. The auction house allows all players to bid for items or put them up for sale. The unique thing about it is that the trading transaction in the game is able to be done using in-game gold as well as real life cash. There are games, such as Iris Online, which allowed the trading of cash item, but none has provided a direct cash to gold trading function like this. This is probably the first major MMO-title that has this feature.

This would probably be extremely good news to organisation which farms in-game gold for cash. They can now do it legally and not risk getting banned like previous MMORPGs. However, there would be a tax imposed for players who are withdrawing cash out of their account. Specific details regarding the tax is not disclosed yet. With this, i can assume there would still be several gold farmers doing underground trading to get maximum profit.

Blizzard currently has no plans to post up items for sale in the auction house. Characters would also be allowed to be bought/sold in the future of the game. This is yet another interesting feature of the game, hopefully we have more details on this soon.

This new feature is benefictial for players who loves to spend cash to get stronger. Players who levels up fast would also be able to profit from this. I believe it could actually indirectly motivate players to play the game more frequently. The group of players that are going to hate it would be the ones who farms slow and is unwilling to invest any money into the game.

Diablo III has brought MMORPG to another level. If this proves to be a popular factor that appeals to the gaming community, we will most likely see future games adopting the same kind of system Diablo III is providing for the gamers here. Perhaps WoW would consider implementing this since they are both under Blizzard.

Attached are some of the screenshots of how the auction house would look like. Courtesy of MMO-Champion.
