DarkFire_: Hello, Would you like to introduce yourself?
GPS: Hi, I'm Samuel Tan aka GPS, team leader of team Zenith. I'm 18 this year and I am currently completing my final year of junior college in Raffles Junior College.
DarkFire_: Could you give us a little of your DotA History? Where did you start, and where did you get together with the other Zenith players to form the team?
GPS: In the end of 2004, GPS and his brother Tofuboi, formed team KODO (Kingdom of DOTA) to take part in Rapture Gaming DotA Season 1. Ant was GPS’s schoolmate then, but did not join his team then. They lost at the semi-finals. Two other players, Shoury and LuX, joined the competition under another team DDB and came in 2nd place. Ice, meanwhile, was part of the team know as the Bonkers, taking the 1st place in the competition
As 2005 begun, Lux, Shoury, Tofuboi, and GPS, along with lu.ck, a classmate of GPS, formed a team. They soon joined clan DsD, a Warcraft 3 standard game clan, as their official DOTA division.
At that point, ice was still moving from team to team, not set on a stable one.
At the end of 2005, for RGN Season 2, lu.ck was replaced by Ant due to his commitments to his studies. Shoury left the team as well as he was unable to train together with the team regularly. It was then where ice joined the team to replace him. The team then switched over from clan DsD to clan mVp as ice was one of their key Warcraft III standard game players then and thus could not leave the clan to join DsD.
The team, now under the name of mVp, went on to win the E-Games $10,000 DOTA tournament, making a mark on the local scene. The team proceeded to maintain their winning streak over a period of about 8 months, reigning undefeated among the Singaporean DOTA Teams.
With absolutely not player changes whatsoever, the team left mVp on a good note to find independent sponsorship and changed their name to team Zenith. The team was then granted sponsorship from HP and AMD to further their gaming endeavors.
Musica left team Shinigami and joined team Zenith in September 2006 as he was identified as a talented player by the team. However, he was shifted out of the main lineup due to his move to Australia in the end of December 2006.
DarkFire_: What are the Zenith starters, and their role on the team?
GPS: Presently, the team consists of the original 5 players that came together almost one and a half years ago: GPS, ToFuBoi, Ant, LuX and ice.
GPS, myself, is the team leader. Tactful and determined, he handles many of the administrative duties of the team. In the game, he plays a variety of support heroes like the Vengeful Spirit and Sandking, and will sometimes take on the role of strength heroes such as the Rougeknight or Chaos Knight.
ToFuBoi is GPS’s younger brother. He is known to be one of the best farmers in the scene. He is passionate and innovative, constantly working together with Ant to think of new strategies for the team. He specializes in late game heroes such as the Viper, where his skills in farming allow him to strengthen his hero rapidly to dominate his opponents.
Ant is another one of the team’s strategists. He works together with ToFuBoi constantly to brainstorm new strategies for the team to use. His analytical and focused attitude allows him to respond appropriately in any situation and also allows him to accurately assess the game in order to point out our own mistakes after each game. Ant mainly uses support heroes such as the Lich, though he does specialize in playing the Lone Druid and Enchantress as well.
LuX is a player with an extremely keen sense for the game. He is very aware of whatever is happening on the map, and is able to respond very quickly to the given situation. He issues most of the orders in the game and is usually the first man in when engaging opponents. He uses mainly engager support heroes such as the Enigma and Sandking.
Ice is a very unique player. He can play a lot of roles, but mainly acts as the person who screws up the opponent's tactics, as he is very unpredictable and thinks very quickly, once being a very innovative top TFT player in Singapore. He can act as a farmer, a support hero, or a backstabbing her, and occasionally does all three at the same time.
MusiCa is a rather all rounder player. He doesn't have any specialised heroes that he excels in, but is pretty good in everything, and plays a variety of roles in the team. As a new addition to the team, he is proving himself to be a jack of all trades, able to rival ToFuBoi at farming with some heroes, and LuX in his keen sense for the game.
DarkFire_: What has been your best experience with the players on the team right now?
GPS: Well...for me to pinpoint one experience would be hard. But if I had to choose one, I would definitely say that the Asian Cyber Games (ACG) was the best experience so far. Even though we did lose in the semi-finals and eventually took 3rd place, I found the entire tournament extremely exhliarating as we were given the opportunity to represent our nation to play against other countries as well as being able to play live stage matches in front of a huge audience. The tournament taught us many lessons and was definitely valuable in providing us with exposure and experience.
DarkFire_: With signing up for MYM, what do you wish to accomplish, and prove to every other team out there?
GPS: One of our main objectives is to gain exposure to the playstyles of many different teams from around the world. I feel that this is very important as our different styles have many different strengths and weaknesses.
We also hope to be able to go far in this tournament to show the world the might of Singaporean teams, not only against teams in our own country, but against teams around the world.
DarkFire_: Do you think you can handle the tournaments Top Teams in all of the different countries? And which teams are you most interested in playing?
GPS: coL to settle what Mi2 didn't. And yes we think we can probably handle the top teams in all the countries, and if not we will learn how to soon
DarkFire_ Thanks for the Interview, Any shoutouts you would like to give?
GPS: Props to MYM for organizing this tournament and giving us the chance to compete internationally. Thank goodness for GGC as well, for without it this tournament would not be possible. Also, I would like to thank our sponsors HP and AMD for supporting us throughout our gaming endaevours and allowing us to take it to this level.
DarkFire_: Thanks for the interview, and I wish Zenith the best of luck in whatever tournaments and leagues they will be playing.
GPS: Thanks Rob, it was a pleasure talking to you.
DarkFire_: Same to you.
