EXCLUSIVE Interview with OxygeN- . WCG NF 2008 Warcraft Winner
Interview with standard Warcraft III player, OxygeN-(the one in the middle)
LaNce: Hi! Im LaNce from DotaSG. Care to give me a short introduction of yourself?
OxygeN-: Hi, i'm Lim Wei Yang aka OxygeN-, 17 from NP, I mainly play Warcraft3, and used to play DOTA competitively.
LaNce: I understand that you have participated in several years of WCG national finals, care to shed some light on what achievements have you acquired to date?
OxygeN-:
WCG 2006 3rd
GXL 2007 Season 01 Champion
GXL 2007 Season 02 Champion
WCG 2008 Champion
LaNce: Wow, thats quite a feat there. How much time do you use to spend in training to achieve such results?
OxygeN-: In-season i spend at least 3 hours a day, off-season its at least 1.5 hours a day.
LaNce: Grubby won this year's WCG Warcraft3 grand finals. What gave him the edge? Could you describe the final game a bit?
OxygeN-: Grubby was in scantilating form for the Warcraft 3 grand finals. His edge was the precise timing of catching, and of course he never gave up when he was losing. The finals was one of the finest best of 3 I've seen so far, with the balance of victory changing back and forth in each game, like in the first game, Grubby had an expansion, but still lost as Moon had read his movements to perfection. 2nd game, Grubby won because he managed to catch Moon's hero, on numerous occassions, while in the 3rd game, it was all a matter of resolve, and mental toughness, when he came from losing his hero to a stupid mistake, and flipped the game, and regained the advantage through killing off two of Moon's heroes
LaNce: Although Warcraft 3 still thrives on the international stage, it seems to be faltering in Singapore; its almost rare to see a Warcraft3 competition here. Why do you think this has happened or what lead to this?
OxygeN-: It is due to the nature of our lifestyle; money comes from paper qualifications. Hence, many people value studying over the pursuit of gaming excellence, which results in "leisure gaming". Warcraft 3 nature is 1v1 or solo, and hence it may get boring when you play it alone all the time. That's why team games thrive in singapore, while solo games like Warcraft 3 Dies off
LaNce: Besides from being a game where people play as a team, how different is DotA to standard Warcraft that made it so popular locally?
OxygeN-: i would attribute it to a few reasons.
1) The pace of the game, whereby it moves much faster, rather than having to build an army, and slowly make tatical moves.
2) It is "ego-boosting" with terms like "monster kill" "godlike" etc, it makes the whole game aware that you are owning.
3) The spells are cool.
4) It's much easier to control 1 hero in 1 screen, rather than controlling units in 2 or more screens
LaNce: So have you been participating in competitive Dota? With which team and have you achieved any top positions with the team?
OxygeN-: I played competitive Dota before, with team Wrath. older players would probably know. We won CAPL Premier, RGN Dota 2nd, ESWC 2006 3rd.
LaNce: Wow that's from pretty long ago. Any plans to play in Dota competitions in the near future?
OxygeN-: yeah, im probably going to play CAPL, and I'll see where it goes from there.
LaNce: Alright, last but not least, from a point of view of a standard warcraft player, and having seen how we local dota players play, do you have any tips for all of us who dota?
OxygeN-: I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but we Warcraft players respect each other, and do not OPENLY flame each other in game. it makes the games much more worthwhile, fun and relaxing. GG GL HF!
Haha! Ok, any last shoutouts to the people at DotaSG?
OxygeN-: Kenneth go play dota for life la don't go school liao or go army! and thanks for the interview, lance.
And that concludes the interesting interview with Wei Yang aka OxygeN-. Thanks a lot to OxygeN- to be able to draw some of his precious time to give us some of his insights in our gaming scene. Good luck to his future gaming competitions!
LaNce signing off~

i like the part when he says ego boosting when u started owning with the streak going on it sounds like hes a professional in game woot! anyway dota and standards both are competitive,so we dota or standard players should respect one another
