DotaSG New Event: I will SURVIVE!! Left 4 Dead Competition!!

Singapore - Yes, you did not see wrongly. Indeed this is an announcement for a Left 4 Dead competition. Today we have reach a new milestone by going beyond our familiar ground into uncharted water with a whole new event, a new concept on a new game. Presenting to you our first L4D event,

I will SURVIVE!!

This will a pioneering competition in SG that (maybe first worldwide too) base on Left 4 Dead's latest introduction of a new multiplayers mode call Survival Mode. This new mode provides a different excitements for players looking at both fun and intense in a game. This mode strikes a ying and yang balance, while fun but not compromising on the competitive aspect of it because survival mode has an easy learning curve, you pick up your favorite gun and fires at anything that moves trying not to die or let your team mates die. As for the competitive part skills, map awareness and teamwork is definitely needed to help to make a difference edge out in front of others. And not forgetting to train for it prior to the event to get yourself familiar with sweet spots to mount your defense.

Next good thing to note is that your game results would somehow not affected by any external influence. Why, because in survival mode you will be playing not against human opponents. Instead you will be facing AI controlled zombies hordes. Every team will be on a fair ground with fair chances to perform well and come out top.

Lastly all teams will get to play three rounds before winners are determined. So what's nice about that is if you do badly in one round, all are not lost yet as might be able jump back up if you can perform extremely well for the other remaining rounds.

This is a great chance to experience competition atmosphere at the same time try to win something home. And the Bonus is that there will also be mystery awards to be given other than the already tantalizing 8 top prizes. Even if you do not win I am sure you will enjoy the fun and the competitive gameplay experience, hopefully that will make you and your team fall in love competitive gaming and in turn spurring you all to work on improving and return in our future events. So if you do not want to miss the fun, then sign up now!!

So here are the important event information links,

At the moment these prizes are already very attractive for this unique event. Total there are 1K hard cold cash, not like a mixture of cash and product as many like to claim in their event. We say 1k cash means we will fork our 1k cash. Products are all outside of that 1k, so when adds up, it will be more.

And to make it appealing to participant from all level, we have it play across 3 maps which means you don't do well in first, you will still come back if you can perform in your next 2 maps. The chance to win is still there.

By the scoring system, if using time let say top is 30mins and second best is just 15min, then top team would have 15mins different which would be hard to catch up, and not to mention those that are even less than 15 mins. But base on the scoring system, between the 30mins and 15mins would be just 1 points different.

So if you are good and is just unlucky in early round or any round, the chance of catching up is there as long as you do not continue to flop.

And 8 prizes, 32 teams, 1 out of 4 probability of winning is good odds. And not forgetting the mystery prizes.

And one more one small news tip for all, I got wind that maybe one of the prominent L4D team might not be playing. So well, if that is true then somehow make things sweeter. But not confirmed yet, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Hope these make it attractive to you guys who have not yet looked at or realised the deeper beauty of this event.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback and we will keep in mind what we can do.

We hope for all your support as before. That was what actually made this event possible, only with us all working together then there can be events like this which take care of gamers of all levels. It will allow us to pull the gap between the pro and the casual gamer closer.

This time I will use a lot of marshals to watch the game. You know of any let me know also.

You forming a team to play?

The prizes might be adjusted, no worry, it will not be reduce even when change as long as we can get enough people to join. In fact it might be increase.

Okay, I have gotten feedback that some wanted to join but could not find members or enough to form a team.

So am thinking if it will help if I help you all do random teaming.

Then maybe you guys can do individual signup after that you will be randomly put into a team of 4 with the others.

Well, you are wrong. There are a couple of really good L4D teams, if you have been following the scene, I am sure you will know who they are.

As it's subjective for now, thus I am not going to name the team.

Can you explain more about how the game will be played?

Is it a swiss round-robin? Single Elimination? Random league-style play? Group to single elim?

How are maps selected? Coin toss? Loser/winner?

Under the rules it seems like a group play to single elim is probable. But under that kind of scoring system all teams need to do is to pick an easy map for all 3 games(repeatedly) to be at the top of the table.

I think you should just host a VS competition instead, survival mode gets boring and repetitive after a few games and it will not entertain any spectators. The prizes are good, but I doubt many teams will join.

All team are going to play 3 rounds each with different map.

The map for each round will be decided by organiser and announced during the start of that particular round. After every round teams are rank from best time top down. Thus they will be given points from that rank. Top team for the round get 32 points and the next will get -1, which is 31 points, so on and so forth. At the end of the 3 rounds, teams that scored the most points for the three rounds will win.

I do understand that VS are more common and will attract teams to take part. However, why we are doing this special format is that we want to appeal and attract more to take part and bask in the fun and exciting atmosphere of competitive environment. If done VS, the established teams will just simple deterred or overwhelmed the other teams. Thus, this format which we have derived create a better balance between the skill differences between teams and give the everyone more fighting chance.

Sincere thanks and appreciation for your feedback, we will carefully consider and decide if any changes is needed if the signup gets really bad. We are at the moment still keeping our faith up that teams will see the benefit of this event and try it out for fun or the competitiveness of it.

We really looking forward to having more teams or L4D players open up their mind and try this tournament out. Just like how we have open ours and venturing into the land of L4D. Making it happen and successful would definitely help to make the scene more vibrant and allow us to bring you more good stuffs in the future. It will also show help to show and strengthened the faith that our sponsor have in local gaming community.
